Closure of Dartmoor Railway operations

April 18th 2008It is with sadness that The Friends report the news that ECT are pulling out of Dartmoor Railway. This means that the operations connected with Dartmoor Railway are to be closed with immediate effect. The buffets at Meldon and Okehampton together with the shop at Okehampton are now closed. This has meant staff redundancies which are to be deeply regretted. ECT are seeking a new owner for the Dartmoor Railway and we understand two prospective purchasers are going through a 'due diligence' process at the moment.

The Friends group will continue to operate in the interim and will let the members know of any news as and when we hear it. For the time being, all post for the Friends should be addressed to Peter Flick, Membership Secretary FoDR, 'Copse', Sticklepath, Okehampton, Devon EX20 2NR, rather than to Okehampton station.

The stone trains will continue to run but all of the other operations including the station at Okehampton are now closed.
