Dartmoor railway sale confirmed
September 3rd 2008We are delighted to announce that the negotiations over the sale of Dartmoor Railway were completed on 3rd September. The new owners are Iowa Pacific Holdings. The Friends committee now look forward to a new era in the life of Dartmoor Railway and working closely with the new owner and management. While negotiations were proceeding, the Friends committee continued to meet regularly, and at yesterday's meeting we were very pleased to welcome the recently appointed new interim Operations Manager for Dartmoor Railway, Mr Graham Isom. A further development has been the opening by volunteers of the Okehampton buffet on a limited basis in connection with the Sunday Rover train service from Exeter. This will continue until services finish on Sunday 21st September. We are extremely grateful to the enthusiastic volunteers who are manning this useful service and for generously donating the profits to the Friends.
All these exciting developments mean that we are at last now able to re-open recruitment to the Friends. If you would like to join us and support the new Dartmoor Railway, please go to the JOIN page of this site. We welcome your support, but do need to point out that until we hear more about the future direction of the railway, we cannot be specific about particular benefits - apart from the satisfaction of keeping a Southern influence here in Devon!
